Abstract

The critique of man that Dostoevsky would carry out in his work after katorga was preceded in his early prose by a modelling of the world in which any attempts of the protagonists to overcome the status quo ante are defeated. From this point of view this paper analyses The Poor People, The Double, The Mistress, and The Weak Heart.
